OtterBox Commuter case for IPhone 4/4S £22 (otterbox.com/amazon.co.uk)

Otterbox has traditionally made rugged cases that can protect your idevice from anything that’s thrown at it. The commuter series aims to still give this same level of protection but be more usable in terms of everyday usage.

Included in the box are three elements that make up the protection of you device. Firstly there is a screen protector, which I always appreciate when companies include one with their cases. Then there is a durable silicone membrane that simply slips onto your phone. The last part is a one-piece custom moulded polycarbonate outer shell that securely fits over the membrane. The build quality is excellent and makes your phone feel protected from any drops or bumps that may occur.

The apple logo and camera areas are exposed on the back, but this is fine as they a recessed, this is same for the screen also. This then can protect your screen if you happen to drop it flat on its screen. All the side buttons and screen lock buttons are covered by the silicone membrane but are still easily accessible in terms of pressing through to them. A nice touch to this case is the silicone overlays or plugs for the 30-pin connector port and the headphone jack.  This protects against any materials entering the device if its in a bag or pocket with other objects.

This case however still adds bulk onto your device, I keep my phone in my pocket always and I felt my phone was always noticeable as I travelled about and that was when I was wearing jeans. There is no doubt this case is great for what it does, you just need to ask yourself if it’sreally what you need. If you do place your phone in bags then this could prove useful or in terms of if your active or just general trips to the beach etc. so a good case offering great protection but adding weight and bulk also.
